Introduced in 1978, the TR-7 was R.L. Drake's first all solid-state HF transceiver, replacing the tube-based TR-4/TR-4C line and arriving as one of the earliest solid-state amateur rigs sold in real volume. It's built on a modular architecture with individual plug-in circuit boards on a motherboard, and covers 160-10m general coverage using a 48 MHz up-conversion receiver design praised for strong dynamic range for its time. Collectors and DXers value it for its board-swap serviceability and its place as the turning point between tube-era and solid-state Drake gear.
