Introduced in the mid-1980s, the IC-725 is a compact, entry-level HF base transceiver from the same generation as the IC-735, offering general coverage receive with a simpler feature set and lower price than Icom's higher-tier rigs of the time. It was commonly bought as a first HF radio or budget second rig, and it remains one of the more affordable 1980s Icom classics on the used market.
