Released in 1998, the IC-746 was one of the first mainstream transceivers to combine HF, 6m and 2m coverage with a built-in band scope in a single base/mobile unit, running 100W across HF/6m and 50W on 2m. That tri-band flexibility was unusual for the time and made it a popular all-rounder before Icom split HF and VHF/UHF coverage across separate later product lines.
