Released around 2014-2015 as the successor to the IC-7800, the IC-7851 keeps the same 200W output and dual-receiver layout but replaces the local oscillator design with a lower phase-noise DDS/VCSO system and a faster DSP, improving reciprocal mixing dynamic range and adding a dual real-time scope. It's Icom's most expensive conventional HF flagship and one of the rarest rigs on the secondhand market, generally only appearing when a serious contest or DX station upgrades.
