Released in 1992, the TS-50S was, at the time, one of the smallest full-power (100W) HF transceivers on the market, packing a general-coverage receiver and complete HF band coverage into a chassis barely larger than a car stereo. Its compact size made it especially popular for mobile installations and as a lightweight rig for DXpeditions or field operating, and it remains a commonly traded, still-usable compact HF radio on the secondhand market today.
