The TS-520, dating to the early 1970s, is one of Kenwood's earliest widely popular HF transceivers and a foundational model in what became the long-running S-line series. Like other rigs of its generation it uses a hybrid design — solid-state driver stages feeding tube final amplifiers — reflecting the transceiver technology standard of the time. Its historical importance in Kenwood's amateur radio lineup, alongside its distinctive look, makes it a recognizable and still actively collected vintage rig.
