Introduced in 2011, the TS-590S was Kenwood's answer to a growing demand for a mid-priced, high-performance HF/50MHz base station between the entry-level TS-480 and the flagship TS-990S. It brought DSP-based IF roofing filtering down to a more accessible price point, with 100W output and a general coverage receiver. It sold well among club stations and DXers before being superseded by the improved TS-590SG in 2015, and remains a common, budget-friendly used purchase.
