The TS-820S, from the mid-to-late 1970s, is a classic hybrid HF transceiver from Kenwood's original S-line, using tube final amplifiers alongside solid-state driver circuitry — the standard design approach of its era before fully solid-state finals took over. It was succeeded directly by the TS-830S, which refined the same basic architecture. The 820S is considered an icon of 1970s Japanese amateur radio and remains popular with vintage-gear collectors and restorers.
