Released in 1988, the TS-850S is a general-coverage HF transceiver widely respected among DXers and CW operators for the quality of its stock receiver, which could be further sharpened with the optional YK-88 DSP audio filter unit. Offering 100W output and Kenwood's IF-shift/notch tuning of the era, it built a strong following in serious operating circles and remains one of the more sought-after late-1980s Kenwood rigs on the secondhand market.
