Introduced in the mid-1980s, the TS-940S was one of Kenwood's first flagship-class HF transceivers built entirely with solid-state finals rather than tube output stages, marking a turning point away from the earlier hybrid S-line designs. It featured a quadruple-conversion, general-coverage receiver (150kHz–30MHz) with around 102dB of dynamic range, 100W output, and passband tuning. Historically significant as a bridge between the tube era and modern all-solid-state Kenwood rigs, it remains a respected vintage flagship.
