Introduced in 1987 as an entry-level HF transceiver, the FT-747GX offered a double/triple-conversion general-coverage receiver (0.1–30 MHz), a 500 Hz CW filter option, RF attenuator, noise blanker and CAT computer control across 20 memory channels, at a lower price point than its FT-757GX/FT-767GX siblings. It was aimed at newer hams and budget-conscious operators wanting a genuinely capable all-solid-state HF rig without flagship features, and its affordability made it one of the more common late-80s Yaesu HF radios still found on the used market today.
