Released in 2003, the FT-857D is a mobile/base all-band, all-mode transceiver (HF through 70cm) built around a fully detachable front panel, letting operators mount the compact radio body under a car seat or in a trunk while running controls from the dash. It outputs 100W on HF/6m, 50W on 2m and 20W on 70cm. For years it was the standard choice for hams wanting one radio that worked from home, car, and field, and it remains common on the used market as an affordable multi-band workhorse.
