Introduced in 2016, the FT-891 is a compact HF/6m-only mobile transceiver with a fully separable head unit design and no VHF/UHF coverage, keeping the electronics package small enough for tight vehicle installs. It delivers 100W and inherited receiver DSP technology from Yaesu's higher-end FTDX rigs of the era, giving it stronger performance than its size and price would suggest. It's commonly bought as a dedicated mobile/portable HF rig by operators who already have separate VHF/UHF gear and don't need an all-band do-it-all radio.
