Introduced in 1994, the FT-900 is a compact HF/6m mobile-focused transceiver with a fully detachable front panel that can be mounted separately from the radio body, up to 100W output, and general-coverage receive. It was designed as a flexible mobile/base hybrid for operators who wanted one radio that installed cleanly in a vehicle but could also serve as a simple home station. Its small footprint and separable head design were ahead of their time and influenced later Yaesu mobile HF rigs.
