The Lab599 Discovery TX-500 is a ruggedized, weather-resistant QRP HF/6m transceiver (up to 10W) announced in 2019 by a Russian design team, built into an unusually thin, CNC-machined aluminum enclosure with sealed controls designed to shrug off rain and dust. Its SDR architecture and very low receive current draw were built specifically for backpack and off-grid portable operation rather than desk use. The combination of a genuinely weatherproof body and compact size has made it a favorite among SOTA and expedition-style operators, and it holds strong demand on the used market for that niche.
