About this radio
Released in 2004, the FT-897D is an all-band, all-mode transceiver (HF through 70cm) designed to work equally well as a home base station or field/portable radio, with an optional internal battery pack and built-in speaker distinguishing it from its more mobile-oriented FT-857D sibling. It outputs 100W on HF/6m, 50W on 2m and 20W on 70cm. Its combination of full HF+VHF/UHF coverage and true field portability made it a long-time favorite for SOTA, field day and emergency-communications use.
