Introduced in 2005, the FTdx9000 series was Yaesu's top-of-the-line flagship for most of the 2000s, sold in D (desktop) and Contest/MP variants with different power output and cabinet sizes. It used a full down-conversion dual-receiver architecture with multiple roofing filters and, unusually for its era, a built-in TFT color display — an ambitious, expensive design that pushed Yaesu's conventional (non-SDR) receiver technology about as far as it would go before the shift to SDR flagships years later. Large, heavy and originally very expensive, it's now a collector-grade rig on the secondhand market.
