The TS-590SG, released in 2015, is a refresh of the TS-590S mid-range base transceiver, aimed squarely at DXers and contesters who want strong receiver performance without flagship pricing. It kept the 100W HF/50MHz coverage and DSP-based IF filtering of its predecessor while improving front-end dynamic range and adding a real dual-receive circuit. Compact for a desktop rig, it became one of the most common "serious but affordable" all-mode HF radios of the 2010s on the used market.
