Launched in 2013, the TS-990S was Kenwood's modern flagship HF/50MHz transceiver, built around true independent dual receivers rather than a single receiver with a sub-band monitor. It offered 200W output, an SDR-derived receiver design, and a large color display alongside a dedicated sub-display for the second receiver. Priced well above the rest of Kenwood's lineup, it targeted top-tier contest and DX stations and remains one of the most capable used flagships on the market.
