Introduced in 2008, the FT-950 is a mid-range HF/6m base transceiver with 100W output, sitting between Yaesu's entry-level and flagship tiers of the era. It offered DSP IF filtering and a receiver notably improved over Yaesu's earlier FT-990/FT-2000-generation rigs at a more accessible price point, making it a common step-up choice for operators outgrowing a first HF radio. It was eventually succeeded in Yaesu's lineup by the FTdx3000, but remains widely available and well regarded on the secondhand market.
